Music Interviews
Music Interviews are held in the spring (for the fall semester) and occasionally in December for the winter semester if there are any mid-year openings. Interviews are held for both private and group lessons.
This is a very informal audition. For example if a young child has an interest in taking piano lessons, we would ask them, “Would you sing the ABC song with us?” “Would you clap this rhythm back to us?” We try to make the interview a positive experience for everyone.
If a student already has had experience, we ask them to bring their instrument and any music they have been studying so the teacher can hear them play.
Currently these are the instruments we teach at Rosie’s House and the appropriate age levels for each instrument. Our students range in age from 5 to 18 (high school seniors).
Please note that sometimes it depends on the physical size and attributes of the child to determine potential success on an instrument. For example, does a child have fingers big enough to cover the holes on a clarinet?
